I am fairly new to heucheras (thank you, Springcolor) and am noticing that some have lovely little flowers (hence the coral bells name) and some seem to just send up long flower stalks that don't really do much. In particular, I have a few-year old "Green Spice" that I think I should probably just lop off the flower stalks as soon as they form to encourage more foliage. ?? I don't think I've ever really seen a show of color from the buds, although there they are. Near as I can tell, they the flower stalks just fall over without opening. I could likely post this on a heuchera forum, but I tend to just trust you guys' advice more (what might work in Kentucky might not work in Washington).
Heuchera flowers
I don't think it will encourage more foliage. But if you don't like the flowers, then I'd go ahead.
Yes, just cut the flowers if you don't like. They sometimes get a bit much and fall all over and look messy.
I've given up on heuchera, I just can't keep the deer away from it here. They even came up onto the porch for it...
This is the first year (in 6 years) I've seen blossoms on my Heuchera out in front. I forgot that they were pink. Apparently this year's deer aren't eating the blossoms . . .
