Just Had To Share...

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Starting back to work at the local greenhouse today at noon. Wasn't planning on that, but stopped by yesterday to do some shopping and...well, they talked me into it. So, it's going to be a busy day today....got up extra early at 7:30. Let the dog out and started coffee, as usual. Hollered for the dog, he didn't come...no biggie. Started gettin busy around here. Went to get the dog and he wasn't at the door like he usually is...so I went outside and hollered for him. The neighbor man (from behind the trees) hollers back, "You lookin' for yer dog?"
"Yep", I reply
"He just headed down the road towards town!"
Huh??? What? He's NEVER done that! He's scared of everything, he's a Sheltie. What the heck? He's gotta be chasin somethin. Oh, no! Not the road...cars. Cars. CARS! Ok, only two cars an hour go passed this place....and there they went. Oh, baby, what are you doing??

Run inside, put my hair up and make my pj's look like normal clothes (as if that's really possible). Put sneakers on and run out the door. Don't tell DBF anything, he's still sleeping but will be up in about 10 minutes.

Hoof it down the road yelling at the top of my lungs, "Baxter Baby Boy! Pumpkin Butt! Sweety Pie! Buddy! Come here Cutie!" I know the guy next door with the German Shepherd named (simply) Jr. had to have a good laugh at me, lol. Whisteling as I went, calling, calling, looking in every field as I went by, peering into the woods the best I could...trying to listen for my puppers. He doesn't wear tags since he has a tattoo for a license, so he's pretty quiet unless he barks.

I walked about a 1/2 mile. That's the farthest I've ever walked looking for him. (He's only ever run off two other times in his life and he's 5 yrs old) This is the first he's ever been lost since we moved to the "real woods." I was starting to get seriously concerned for him. I was also starting to worry about making it into work because I wasn't going anywhere till I found my puppers.

Then I turned around (as I had been doing) and looked behind me...he was on the other side of the road, just poking along, tongue hanging out, panting like crazy. What relief!!!!

I crossed the road, knelt down and he came right to me. I picked him up and squeeeezed him. He game me kisses and kisses and kisses. We walked home at his pace...he was worn out. I'm sure he'll sleep all day while I'm at work (and I was concerned he'd miss me! ha!). When we went passed the neighbor who alerted me he was still out with Jr, waiting to see if I came home with my puppers. He gave us a BIG wave and smile...so maybe he did understand the whole Pumpkin Butt, Sweety Pie, Cutie thing afterall!! =)

When we got up the driveway DBF was loading up his work truck and kinda looking at me like, "strange time to go for a walk, isn't it?" I had to explain the whole thing that he slept through, lol.

Baxter is home safe and sound, crazy mutt. He's sleepin by my feets. So glad to have him there...even tho he's all wet and stinky right now =) =) =)

Thanks for letting me share....
