May count for Monarch butterflies released 102

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

I just totaled my count of released Monarchs for May a total of 102.

Ok feeling really dumb................ I had my female & male Monarchs confused.

turns out it was 38 males & 64 females...

I was trying to show a friend the difference and discovered I had it backwards.

Dope slap.

Oh, my! That's a lot! Hope some of them make it to my house! Can you send them this way???

Good luck with your next 'litter'(?) too!

Ruth, I have a question and you seem pretty experienced. I had 3 Monarchs eclose this morning. I checked on them all day and they seem fine. I lwt one go this evening, and he could not fly too well. He would fly right for a few seconds and them fall to the ground. I brought him back inside. IS he just getting used to flying? He looks fine, but he isn't too graceful.

Thanks, Jennifer

let me butt in......They are exhausted and weak the first day until late afternoon, then they will nectar and find a place for shelter. Also if not able to be in the sun to warm up a few minutes, they won't fly as well.

Thanks Sheila, I didn't have a "good" answer.
I usually release mine within a few feet of Lantana & Jatropa & Fushia, jasmine, Hamelins patens...
and they tend to hang around for a bit and feed. Every now and then one will just hang on our lanai screen for a long time before flying off.

Thanks to both of you :) I released 3 yesterday that were vigorous flyers, including the little guy who wasn't very graceful. Thanks again, Jennifer
