I live in Eastern NC and want to identify this bird if I can. Thanks for any help!
Can anyone ID this bird please?!?
That's a Golden Pheasant or "Chinese Pheasant...Chrysolophus pictus. From Western China. It didn't fly to North Carolina from China-somebody lost a pet.
Ditto to Golden Pheasant.
As well as the wild ones in southwestern China, there's a couple of small feral populations in Britain.

I thought maybe "pet" was the case. Odd thing is that we don't have any neighbors within a mile of us or so. Very remote location. I guess I better start asking around and forget about that "CHINESE PHEASANT with ONIONs" recipe I was reading about.
thanks for the help!
On the other hand, read this link from AvianWeb http://www.avianweb.com/goldenpheasants.html It says that they were brought to N America and George Washington perhaps owned some. Also a lady in Nova Scotia has photos of some she claimed were in her backyard. Are you guys sure that it's not possible that it's not a pet? I do live in a very densely pine forested area with not much development.
thanks
