Bifid African Violet leaf?

Montgomery, AL

Has anybody ever had this happen to their plant before?

How bizarre! The apical whatchamacallit must have been injured/split somehow and ended up growing out double! Nifty.

I recently had a leaf that did something just like that. It has two leaves grown together as if fused one on top of the other and I was wondering why in the world it did that and if the plant was OK or maybe something wrong with it genetically.

Welcome to the AV/Gessie forum! I've never seen a AV do that before but wanted to say Hi to someone that lives so close to me ^_^ Do you grow other gessies also?

Montgomery, AL

Yes. I grow alsobias(cygnet on the pedestal) , chiritas, episcias, and one drymonia. I also have lots of hoyas. I've tried streps, but they always die on me. I travel to the Early Birder's african violet and gesneriad club every month in Birmingham. Where is Red Level and what do you grow?

Welcome Jamiew ^_^.

A note to Anna. Are you sure your AV doesn't have bustle back foliage?

No maam it's definitely not a buslte back! I got one last year in the round robin so I know what that looks like. It's a large standard by Buckeye and it literally looks like two leaves grew together on the same petiole but one merged on top of the other. I wish I was good with technical things like a camera and I could take a picture. Maybe I can get my husband to do it. I keep meaning to chop that leaf off of it but it's still a small plant and it needs the energy until it gets a bit bigger.

Anna,
It's probably not hurting anything to leave it on the plant as long as it looks healthy.A picture would be great to help us understand exactly what it looks like.Bustlebacks,Longifolias,Holly leaves, etc. are not as common as they used to be.That's why I was wondering.

Oh I understand Lynn. It really is just a standard plant with regular foliage nothing out of the ordinary. This is the only leaf that is life that out of 10-12 leaves. It's a young plant of a Buckeye variety but I can't remember the name. My neighbor gave me the leaf from one of her plants.

You're right it's not hurting anything being there but my eyes, lol. It just looks so funny.
