I've had a few nice beefsteak tomatoes that ripened and made mater sandwiches. My mountain bell cherry tomatoes are green and looks like they are going to be plentiful but not quite red yet; and my grape cherries are producing fairly well, as I've eaten a few of them too. I've also eaten an Early Girl tomatoe sandwich. I looked at my eggplant, my black beauty and one is getting fairly huge now and two more are starting to grow on the same plant. How do I know when an eggplant is ripe enough to eat? My Meyer lemon tree had little green balls on it and I started smacking my lips in anticipation of eating lemons, they turned yellow and then fell off the tree before getting ripe.

Problems? When is an eggplant ready?
Joy,
Pick your eggplants while the fruit is still shiney. They get bitter when they get dull on the outside. You'll also come to know the average size of the fruits your plant is producing, so once you determine that, you can pick them all when they get to that relative, SHINEY, size.

P.S. Have some parmagarna for me!
Gymgirl: I picked the plant, and yes, I'll be thinking of you whilest I'm eating my eggplant parm. LOL Thanks, got two more on the way also.

Things are just horrible here. Some animal, not a bug , is getting my tomatoes,, its to hot to set new fruit. Got it out as soon as I could with the late winter.
I hope out of wo plants or so left, I get 5 or so tomatoes. At this point, that would be a miracle..
Garden Glory: Some critter landed in my taters, broke some of the vines and am still waiting for them all to die back so I can dump them out and hopefully will have some potatoes. Don't get discouraged, summers are a real pain, here we get monsoons (what I call them), if the weather says possible showers I go and spray, otherwise, I might not get to at all, we have had thunderstorm after thunderstorm and heavy rains for the past two weeks, the bugs love it. (groan).

Last night I went out to dust for worms, darned if there were not some big tomatoes turing red. I am so excited, thrilled actually. I guess I should say I WAS thrilled, even covered in dust, something took big bites out of EVERY one that had any blush. Well, thats war. Im letting Beef stay out tonight , no wonder he was so interested in that spot the other day.
Go get it beef for granny! Bet it's a horned catepillar have you looked for frass (catepillar poop)? Yesterday, I saw something that look like dark purple or blue ink on one of my tomato leaves and what looked like frass and haven't found the sucker yet. What left the blue or purple ink???? The birds poop on the tomato leaves sometimes; but, purple???
