Mosquito Repellent?

Silver Lake, MN

Hi Does anyone have any herbal recipes, etc for mosquito repellant?

Strangely (or not!) - a good place to ask that is on the Equine forum - they had several recipes and it's just a matter of finding the thread.

Lemongrass whirled in a blender with enough alcohol to blend, then dilute 50/50 with water. Spritz on.

1 t basil, rosemary and cedarwood essential oil mixed with 1 C alcohol. Spritz on.

Not sure how effective either are, but they smell good. I am not bothered too much by mosquitoes - they land on me and bite but I don't react to them very much. Must be a chemistry thing.

I wonder if I could transfuse some of your blood - my skeeter bites look like hives, fer cryin' out loud....

Thanks and Bonehead, I bet that does smell good, I myself do not like to be "carried away" by the pests, but can not stand the OFF type sprays...
I need to experiment a bit I think.

There is, of course, the Avon 'Skin so soft', too. I mixed it up for my horses once, they *were* soft, lol!

I read somewhere to mix SkinSoSoft 1:1 with rubbing alcohol - probably just stretches it a bit. It smells good too. I'm all for anything that is pleasant. I get especially annoyed when a well-meaning person randomly sprays me with poison.

Farrier came out this morning and sprayed the horses down with a mix of skin so soft, apple cider vinegar and citronella - the actual oil from the Tiki torches. Not real sure what *that* is made of, but I'm positive it's better than what the horse-supply companies sell.
