I think you might get more answers on the terrium forum. I've never made a dome garden so a pic might be helpful.
You can find lots of ideas for glass at craft stores. Epescia like Cleopatra love living in glass. Use a LIGHT soil. I use my violet, soiless mix. Vermiculite, peat moss and perlite. You can put tiny stones in first.
