Veggie leaves

Are the leaves from Brussels Sprouts and Cauliflower plants edible?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

yes, whether you like them or not is up to you.

I have never been able to grow brasiccas, but someone gave me one flat each of winterbor kale, snow-? cauliflower, and brussel sprouts, and I thought perhaps I should try sampling some of the leaves - just in case that's all I get!

Thank you for letting me know that they are not toxic. At least I won't be "dying to try them"!

Sequee - the younger leaves taste better than the larger ones :) Personally, I can't tell the difference between broccoli leaves and collard greens. As far as I know they are all in the same family.

Broccoli, bussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, collards and kohlrabi are different strains of the same plant. So, yes, they are edible. They also can cross-pollinate.

Radishes and turnips are, too.

Can kale be eaten as cut and come again, or is it GONE once you cut it?

Central Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

As long as you leave the crown and a few young leaves in tack, it should come right back. You can harvest kale and collards a few leaves at a time for months.

Kale comes in widely differing shapes. We usually just break off enough leaves for a meal and leave the plants to grow on.

Thank you. I have quite a few of them since someone gave me an entire flat, so I decided to start using the larger ones ASAP. I'm glad to know they will come back as I am totally enjoying them. I'm not sure if I've eaten them before, but I did grow them once. In a corner of the garden with root veggies, and since I didn't know what was what, I never even tried them. Oh, duh! Now that I knbow that it won't hurt me to eat the leaves of any of them, I'm kicking myself for that boo-boo! I've come to LOVE turnip greens best of all. The local farmer's market had tiny Japanese turnips the other day, and I can assure you that nary a bit got wasted. They were sone kind of awesome!

We use baby broccoli and cauliflower leaves in our salad mix and use the larger(but still tender) leaves for cooking. I agree, they taste like collard greens.
In our farm's salad mix we use all kinds of baby leaves. Careful with the radish leaves though, they are very spicy!

I made the mistake of buying Saisai Radish seeds this year...grown fo the leaves. Eeeeeeew!
