Texas A&M Landscape Design Courses

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

Has anyone taken the four Landscape Design Courses offered at Texas A&M? I've thought about it several times, and either waited too late to register, or couldn't fit it into my schedule. I'd like to know what others think of the program. Here's a link to old class listings. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/southerngarden/sglandex2.html I just found out the next session is Sept 13 & 14.

BUMP -- No one has knowledge of this program? Hmmm... maybe it's not worth the effort.

Caddo Mills, TX(Zone 8a)

I was going to look into it too

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'd love to take these classes. I won't be able to take this one this time due to husband's illness, but if anyone does take this one, please let us know what you think of it. I'm hoping I'll be able to take all four of them at a later date.

If it is through A&M you can not go wrong. I took some tree trimming classes through them and the Davis tree co. and loved it. If this is something you are interested in, I would say go for it.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I took the 4 part, 2 yr classes.
I enjoyed them, but they are geared for those who just want to learn more about plants and landscaping in general. More for Master Gardeners, who need to get education hours, and flower show judges who need refreshers. Don't even think you can be a landscape designer after the series!
One of the best lectures I remember was one about interstate highways and overpasses. I was ready to bolt and go back to my cushy room at the Hilton, but I stayed. It was great! The lecturer explained the WHY of what they do with the overpasses that you mindlessly cross under. It was a good lecture. I always "look" now when traveling under an overpass!!!
Dr. Odenwall (sp) from LSU is such a great lecturer...that I found someone from Austin who had already taken the course...and we drove all the way back to A&M to sneak in and hear him again... No, we didn't eat lunch or cookies on break....but we both thought it was worth the gasoline to hear him again!
If you're a Master Gardener, you'll meet lots of folks you have seen at the conventions. Our Travis County group was about to embark on the first garden tour. I picked the brains of a great group from the Dallas/ Ft Worth, and Gainesville areas at lunch that had already had successful garden tours. They were instrumental in giving us a foundation for how to set ours up.
The classes are set up so that you an take them in any order...of the four. There are tests at the end of each session, but unless you have lost half your brain in a fall from the Empire State Bldg.....you will do fine. Everything is covered in the review.
Go for it! You'll be so glad you did................
