We had a small oak that was killed by borers last year in the front yard and I would like to make a small wildflower patch out there. My husband is sort of frightened by me digging up the front yard but honestly are yard is so bad it won't matter! At first I thought I would use a mix but now I am thinking I might pick some specific varieties that are well adapted for this area and put on a season long show. What suggestions do you have? I want a mix of colors, textures and bloom times and they need to be tough.

Blanketflower will bloom starting in April and go all summer long until first frost. Monarda is lovely but it is a short lived and blooming annual. They reseed like crazy, though.
