Girls are laying
Wow, great production, congratulations!
WHOOO HOOO Frans... Way to go. (and Frans Girls...Keep um laying)..
Good deal Fran! Congrats
I have a question about this. I got my pullets in mid February, and while I don't have any eggs yet, that "hen" that may be a rooster, seemed as though it were trying to procreate with another hen. Isn't it too early? What (aside from finding eggs in the nest box) are signs that a girl is ready to start producing eggs? Thanks!
Congrats on your booming egg business! :)
If your girls are friendly.. my first clue was when I bent down to pet them.. its almost as if they are cowering like a dog... actually they are ummm.. scooching down for the rooster ..
I've noticed the last week or so, since it has become more hot and humid, that my egg numbers are waaaay down. Anyone else having that problem? They have plenty of water...so what's up?! I can't figure it out.
Well Dr. Dolootz, I'm having just the opposite problem. Our temps are fifteen degrees below normal with lots of rain and out of thirty chickens that are layers i'm getting a meger eight or nine eggs a day. Sure hope it warms up soon, 48-55 degrees just don't get it this time of the year...Hay
Hay - glad to hear I'm not the only one with laying problems! We both need to give our girls a pep talk. I'm getting 3-5 eggs a day out of about 60 layers, so I'm kind of desperate because I can't fill my orders that people give me at work! I sell my eggs at my workplace sometimes. I have several people who have a standing order for a dozen a week and I barely have enough for half my orders. Ugh...
Could something be collecting the eggs before you do? We had a hungry snake one year.
