Please help - Violet ID for newbie!?

Rockville, MD(Zone 7a)

Forgive me, but in all honesty, as much as I love African Violets, I'm totally ignorant when it comes to names and really expert care! All I really know is how to keep them alive and (hopefully) keep them blooming!

I bought this AV about 5 months ago and it hasn't stopped flowering since then. Because it has such a giant puff of flowers on it (which, to me, hardly even look like violets!), I'm quite curious to know what kind I have. The plant had no distinctive labeling when I purchased it, so I've been wondering ever since. I saw a similar photo on someone else's posting awhile back, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it now. Plus, I don't think it was labeled there either!!

Thanks in advance for any help!! :)

Someone somewhere recently wrote that there are over 16,000 plants in that AVSA database. I can't imagine how anyone could identify one given there are so many. Most of us who buy the grocery store ones settle on a name we choose and love them just as much as if it had it's given name.

it surely is pretty.

Beautiful plant! And it seems to like you--LOL! Looks a little like my Harmony's Pinkstone, but then, so did another grocery store noid I had at the time. My HP bloomed for a very long time as well. Now it just sits and taunts me ^_^

Annacanna, thanks for the info. That's an amazingly massive variety! No wonder it's difficult to figure out who's who. ;)

Phoebesviolets, your Harmony's Pinkstone looks almost identical to my plant! I purchased mine from a local nursery, but there wasn't any identifying info. Hopefully it will continue to bloom happily for awhile longer! I have another similar violet to this one, but it's a miniature plant with long-stemmed leaves and the flowers are a very light, powdery whitish-pink. I don't know the name of that one, either!!

The Harmony line is well known--you might ask about your plant at the nursery where you bought it--you never know...they might know something!

It is lovely! I hope you find the name. If not, just enjoy it, I know you are. Nice to have you here on the forum.

Until my neighbor introduced me to the world of AVs last summer I never imagined that AVs had names or varieites. It makes sense they do of course just like other plant and silly me for not thinking of it. I just loved what I had because they were pretty it didn't seem to matter to me at all that they were nameless lol. Now I know they have names I want to know names and there really isn't any difference they are still just pretties on my shelf that make me happy.

Yes, knowing the names is fun. Makes them all like little kids to me. I love the names.
