Hi everyone,
I have two mini Ozark sinningias and would like to propagate them.
I read the stickies but could not find what I want to know.
Do these plants have tubers?
When is the best time to propagate them? they are about to flower.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Sinningia propagation
Hi! I love sinningias. Yes, they make a tuber. You can take cuttings and root them anytime. If they are ready to flower, I would wait until after they finish blooming first. The cutting will make roots and then start growing a tuber. Have you checked your pots to see if you have a tuber or are your plants rooted cuttings? Just to know if there is a tuber and the plant dries out, it will come back with new growth..if there is no tuber, just a rooted cutting it will not come back.

Hi Tish,
Thank you for your reply.:o)
Mine definitely have tubers because, like you explained, they die back and grow again.
Thank you very much for your explanation. I will check them once they stop flowering.
all the best!
You could take off the bloom (cause they sap the energy) and root a cutting, but you might as well just enjoy the blooms now and root it later.
I took a cutting of my peachy propeller and rooted it to give a friend. Acutaly I took more than one, but this story is about the one i gave her. She phoned me one day exclaiming how beautiful it was just full of blooms. I had to tell her I had never seen mine bloom!, ha. So now I stopped taking cuttings so MINE can bloom! ha. It's okay though. When you give away a plant, its insurance that if something happens to the original, maybe you can get a cutting back sometime. She was going thru a really hard time, so she really needed that surprise.

Aww Tish, that is lovely way to cheer up a friend. I hope yours blooms very soon and you get lots of flowers.
LolaGypsey (strange name...) Small Sinns self easily and seed ripens in just a month or so. All you have to do is rub the bloom between your fingers - works best on a two or three day old bloom. You can even try this with the big guys like speciosa but its best with minis. What you get may or may not resemble the parent; that depends on whether the mother plant is a stablized hybrid or not. Many of the named varieties are. Give it a try!
I didn't know much about seeds, except I have a hard time growing them!.. but..unless you are desparately trying to grow a copy, ...that the seeds produce different color blooms is the fun part. Jan gave me country snowflake seeds and I got all kinds of different shades of bloom. It's the one time I had such luck with seeds. tish
