peony as cut flower?

I have several peony plants and would love to use them as cut flowers. The problem is that the flowers don't seem to last at all. They wilt within a day even if I cut them right after rain. Any advice? Is there something I can do to prolong the flowers in the vase? Thanks.

cut them before they are fully open, barely past the bud stage.
