Fertilizer

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

If miracle gro is no good, then what does everyone use? The "recipe" thread is for a homemade Thrive, not a complete fertilizer. What do you use for fertilizer?

I have been using MG with liquid kelp and medina soil activator. I toss in some epson salts once a month.

Then I am content.

Who says MG is no good and that the recipe is a homemade thrive? The recipe will give a Brug most of what it really needs to grow, N. I compost so much now that I have stopped fertilizing my yard plants.

Well I have certainly read many times that MG is no good. On this website and others.

If "the recipe" works for people, I'm not taking exception.

Actually my best growing brug is in the ground in rich, compost enhanced soil and doesn't get fertilizer because it appears not to need it.

HA HA HA JT
this is the second thread where you've edited yourself into oblivion.. I can only imagine the comment on the first go round.. it makes me laugh...
Like Liz Says.. if it's working.. and they look good.. they are OK..
I do use MG... it's fine although I hear there's more salts in the latest versions... but unless your seeing salt buildups.. and don't get them flushed with water from watering or rains you're OK there also..
where I grow it's 98% petroleum ... so I have to augment.. soil and nutrients... [ Gulf Coasters take heart. ]
I dig in alfalfa in the winter ... start everyone off in the spring with cow manure.. decomposed and dehydrated... spray the recipe as I can remember to do so...I sometimes water with the MG ,,general food.. then switch to the bloom booster type in the early summer.. Spray-N-Grow every few weeks... and messenger on alternate cycles... and hefty doses of byodynamic and micro addatives... to help uptake of available nutrients..building colonies of bacterias in the soil.. it's a partial organic.. and partial industral approach... but then I'm overcomming alot.. but my hefty colonies of earth worms seem to like the mix... and are doing their part also... no hauling worm castings up to the roof anymore...

I performed an unofficial field test with about a dozen types of granular fertilizers last summer and from the results I can tell you that nothing even comes close to the results obtained with Osmocote timed release fertilizer. Keep in mind I'm not growing brugs in a typical home/yard environment. I have over 3,000 brugs in various stages of growth and cannot take the time to feed them on a regular basis with liquid fertilizers or a foliar feed. All brugs are grown in full sun and receive the same care including 2 hours of overhead water every morning. Add to that our summer rain and you can see that fertilizer and nutrients can be quickly leached out of the soil.

I also apply a monthly foliar spray of Organicide that I add a small amount of liquid fertilizer to.

I use the 9 month 15-9-12 Osmocote Plus formulation, which feeds about 4 months down here.

I am going now to Osmocote my brugs! Thanks Tri fred I have heard nothing but great things about it so I went and bought some.... :)

good information here.

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

I am using chicken and bunny manure compost this year. I am getting lots of blooms earlier that usual even with the freeze that we had. My seedlings seem to be doing especially good too. The ones that I let totally die back to the ground are growing back faster so they must like it.
I normally use MG, epson, salts, and sometimes fish fertilizer.

Is fish fertilizer good for Brugs? I just got a bottle.

I use Donkey /mule poo on mine.
I have used fish emulsion too.
