CLOSED: Hawk Id

Sandusky, OH

Their were 2 of them and they were quite a ways up soaring in circles. I'm convinced its not a Red-tail.

I just spent an hour looking at photo's of Buteo's in flight..and still can't find a match yet, could be just the photo's Ive been looking up on the net.

First-year (~10 months old) of either Red-shouldered Hawk or Broad-winged Hawk. Most likely the former, as it shows the translucent subterminal band on the primaries.

Will go with Red-shouldered Hawk...I couldn't narrow it down before, and my field guide does say narrower bars on the tail on juveniles in the east. It also says pale crescent near wingtips. Thanks Resin! for the Id, you surely know your bird's. New bird for me.
