My mom had an African violet that I *loved*.
No grower of AV's myself, they were her territory and I always thought I would grow that one
on but discover to my great disappointment that it is gone from amongst her things.
Can someone here who would know about an African violet obtained in the late 70's
early 80's help me figure out what it could have been?
She did not know and my early attempts to be helpful and id it for her (with very
limited resource given the time frame and youth) only resulted in that I thought it
could have been 'California'.
The leaves were not real round, they did have hair, and maybe a little wave to them.
It was not tiny, and I may have seen it at around 8 inches in diameter at some point
in it's life (please don't consider that a limit); and the flowers were to my slightly colorblind eye - purple.
(Or perhaps whatever California may have been - can't find that one.)
Does anyone here who may have collected violets in the 1975 - 1980-something range have
any suggestion for what it may have been?
Many thanks in advance.
Help to Find AV from the Past!
Have you looked here yet? http://www.avsa.org/Photographs.asp
There is one named California SunSet and one called California Berries. If California was somewhere else part of the name, then you have your work cut out for you as the listings are alphabetical. Hopefully, someone will remember it.
1977 Optimara had a series of All the states in USA - they were/arebeautiful.
California was one of them go to http://www.optimara.com/
That Optimara sight is incredible! It is really something else!
After looking through it I am probably only more confused but - WOW -
there are some really great violets on it! Many I have never seen, although
I found California and some others on their store site and I can get leafs to start!
Any ideas where to get a leaf from any of these (not found in their store)? :
(I'll buy, if anyone has a leaf or two.)
Columbus
San Francisco
