How can I buy from Eddie now--I don't see him on ebay and cant find World of Brugmansia anymore. I would like to get some cuttings/plants from him.
d-mail him he belongs to Daves or at least he used to World of brugs closed
I was looking for him also.
I sent him a message thru ebay he has a few customers here
Dana, did he send you a list of the cuttings he has available?

I went to e-bay to see if there was anything new and had to laugh at this description:
[quote]Of all the projects we have going, perhaps the most exciting is Eddie's hybridization work with brugmansias. This year Eddie has chosen to work with a group of cultivars so diverse and promising that we are just giddy with delight to be able to offer the seed crosses that have resulted. Some of the newest and rarest angel trumpets are featured in these crosses, along with a few popular favorites. Let your optimism soar with ours as you ponder the delicious possibilities that our new seed crosses present![/quote
It looks like moths were busy pollinating Brugs over at Eddie's. I'd never heard a cross, where the pollen parent is unknown, described this way before. A dollar a seed is very expensive when you don't know what half the cross is.
Moths were very busy in my greenhouse this winter, too. As soon as I have time, I need to bag the seeds to give away for postage. All the pod parents are named cultivars and so were the pollen parents. Maybe I need to describe my "breeding programs this way too. :-)
lol If you would sell some I would buy some tired of old seed I'm not going to fool with seeds anymore unless there fresh I peel them soak them plant them i use peat pods I use boiling hot water to stearlize the medium some don't even plump up I have recived seeds that were so old it was powder cork was so old it turned to dust before they got to me Told seller and nothing was done pay 15 dollars for seed and get 3 lol i am done with seed unless I know its fresh
Dana, I'll give you some seed. I'll post a thread in a few days with details
OH...could you explain how it is less probable to get a bloom....similar to one of the parents if you don't know the name of the pollen donor..
It seems to me there's the same chance .. after all it's still a parent/donor
I prefer to know what both parents are. I would not buy seeds that were open pollinated as chances diminish of having the certain traits you may be seeking in one or both of the parents
Yup you think that i have a bunch of plumeria seed thats going to look just like this lol alot of plants do not come true to seed parent bamboo too found that out the hard way ebay is good for this if you don't have the knowledge to know better its really your fault for not doing the research on your purchase such as the plants that are invasive yup its pretty year later you better really like it cause its going to take over your yard lol
Plumerias, Brugs and many plants produce seeds that do not come true to parents. One must do research to find out the traits of the plants and buy (or sell) beforehand.
I bought some recently and personally I can't wait to grow them. After growing a great number of seeds that were produced by a named mother and a named father, it is still a crap shoot. You may get something you were looking for or it might be a single blossom white, pink, orange, and on and on........Some of them have been so mundane, you might just as well have let the moths do it!
I, as a brugmansia admirer, buy brug seeds and grow them for the possibilities. It is like getting a wrapped gift at Christmas - one you can't rush or open prematurely.
I will never be a hybridizer but I will forever be an admirer of brugmansias and people like Eddie.
PS - I have to agree with the person who started this - I also just received cuttings from Eddie and instead of the two I was expecting he sent me 7 large cuttings. He didn't have to do that but he is a generous person.

Dana, I have never successfully grown a brug from seed in peat pots. I tired it several times and all died. I find it very hard to control the moisture in those buggers.
I tried growing brugs from seed and had the same problem. It was extremely difficult to keep the moisture just right and keep it all happy.
I started my first (and last) plummeria seeds at the same time I started my first brug seeds. Plummerias are so easy. I was surprised. I have a dozen and a half seedling brugs now, but they sure were much more challenging than plummeria.
I totally agree with Brenda about peat pots. I've found that they restrict the root growth. They claim that the roots will grow right through, but from what I've seen, not many roots grow through. I'm going to remove the peat pots and repot the brugs this year.
I'll never use them again.
The brilliant part of the peat pellet pots is as soon as the brug seed are sprouted, I pull off the netting and put them into bigger pots. They don't even know they have been moved. And as far as the water goes prior to seeds sprouting, I add a little fresh water every day and pour off any they don't soak up in 5 minutes.
yup do the same thing works well for me I sprout the seed in pearlite with sterile water below when they sprout I put them in a peat POD and then when they get there first 2 leaves they go in regular pot like you say they don't even know lol
Personally, I would rather the seller go ahead and claim the parent was unknown rather than just guess and sell them fraudulently. I don't want any open pollinated seeds, but I respect that seller's honesty!
I started a gazillion brug seeds.. I only used good ol potting soil.. no transplanting, no sprouting.. Just plant and go.. LOL
Had to stick my head in here.. LOL
Hope all you brug nutz are doin well!!!!!!!
Eddie Dewayne is a recognized seller of brugmansia and has never sent me inferior plants, cuttings or seeds. He isn't guessing about the mother - he knows who that is - just the father is the unknown and he very clearly states that the seeds have been open pollinated - this is fully disclosed. No one is being forced to buy the seeds - they choose to buy the seeds.
I believe we were speaking of the pollen parent being unknown. The pod parent was mentioned in all the auctions offered. In the past he has offered crosses that identified both parents. I just thought his first paragraph was a bit fanciful. All the information in the first paragraph I quoted may be true for hand pollinated crosses. I just thought it stretched the truth by implying that open pollinated crosses were all part of his "exciting" hybridizing program. How many people are going to read the short second paragraph that quickly explains that the seeds are the result of open pollination? Then to ask for $1.00 a seed?
I'm trying to give away a ton of open pollinated seed. Once the pods formed, I left the pods on the plants because I was curious and wanted to see what the pods of those cultivars looked like. This year, I'm cutting them off.
well from what I hear.. he's growing out many 100's of his known seeds..on and off site... and selling off the other seeds... as far as it being apart of a breeding program... MMMM if one of his seeds.. grown as a result of amassing a hoast of the finest brugs together .. and it proguces that lovely triple Blue Brug... even if it was grown elsewhere.. I guess that's a primitive program.. though ...much like God's .. though it's ..as in any Brug seed growing.. much like the lottery.. you get the combination that the aranged genes give.. with a slight reguard to the actual parents..
I can't speak to the price.. [ money is all too relative as to resources ] if you have 100's it might be expencive.. but if you have none... to pay a dollar for a thing that will make a $10 plant in a few months..or a $1000 plant in the same time... seems reasonable with gathering.. packaging .. cataloging.. pulling from stock and mailing it out to the right address...in an aproved way... hay... not too bad
ZZ! SOOOO nice to see you here again!!!
