Although our native arrowood (V. dentatum) is an excellent pollinator, I must warn you that many of us in the northeast and midatlantic are watching our viburnums get devoured by the European viburnum leaf beetle that has made its way south from Canada after hitching a ride on some nursery stock from Europe several years ago. They hit southwestern PA last summer and have already defoliated V. dentatum, V. opulus, V. trilobum and my much favored V. acerifolium. They are half way through my blue muffins and and one of my doublefiles. Suffice to say, I was a viburnum collector!

I would have loved to share but, alas, I cannot. I know that PA, OH, and upstate NY are infested, and some of the neighboring states as well. Do a search for the state of which you are considering a plant trade to be sure the little s.o.b.'s don't hitch a ride. I don't know that they are Arizona climate friendly, but why find out if you don't have to. The leather leafs and Korean allspice viburnums appear to be immune, so they would be your safest trade.

I have been in tears for the better part of the week over this bug, so I felt I had to mention them - sorry if I seem like a party pooper!

Your fine gokats. I'm glad you posted.

I'm in arkansas though, we're a tad colder than Arizona. Sorry for all those troubles your having. is there nothing one can do to kill out that beatle? poison on their plants ? just wondering

Chicago Lustre and Ralph Senior are a couple choices to cross Blue Muffin.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

i've not heard of Ralph senior, I am looking at a chicago lustre on ebay. there's a couple of other ones on there that are denatums too.
