Russian violets special care?

Ann Arbor, MI

Hi all,

I seem to recall someone somewhere on this board mentioned that a few people had had some difficulties with Russian violets. I just picked up one, and would like to avoid too many disasters. Can anyone give me some pointers about what might be different about Russian versus non--Russian AV care?

Thanks much,

Jan

PS: My apologies if there's an obvious link to a previous trail somewhere -- I searched & didn't come up with any info.

I saw my first Russian at the National AVSA Convention. Needless to say, I fell in love! I now have 5. So if they need any special care, someone please chime in!

Jan aren't they just awesome!!

I never found a difference in the violets.

I only have two but so far they aren't any different but maybe time will tell.

I have a couple & must say they are quite larger than others that i have, flowers seem very big also, they just seem hardier & bigger than my others.

Thanks everyone -- I'm glad to hear that none of you have run into particular problems. I'll stop worrying about it and just enjoy them!

Melanie I couldn't agree more! My first one is Blue Eyed Russia and there's somtehing about it that's almost ... epic. So of course, now I'm hooked (particularly since it sounds lke they aren't too persnickety).

Best,

Yeah, my husband just sighs when he hears about one of my new "plant enthusiasms". He knows me too well! Actually though, I'm pretty lucky -- he likes having my plants around the house, and if anything, encourages it.
