I am looking for some to buy. I had some in Cal. I loved it. I moved back to TX. Any mail order ideas for me? Thank you.
Dittany of Crete
I have always ordered mine from Mountain Valley Herbs. I don't think you can order just one plant, however, so I have always added other interesting, hard-to-find plants to my order. It's been a while so I don't remember how many plants you need to get. For some reason, six sounds right. Dittany of Crete is one of my favorites. Glad to hear of someone else who agrees!

Thank you! I will look there!
Thanks for posting this source. I was able to get Dittany of Crete a few years ago from a wholesaler, but I haven't seen it for a while. I just went and ordered a bunch.
It can be nearly impossible to find Dittany, either in nurseries or on-line I've found. And it's pretty hard to root from cuttings as well. Glad the info. was helpful.
I was able to get some rooted from cuttings by just sticking them in the potting soil, but only about 20% of the cuttings took. My big problem was that I forgot the plants outside during a frost.
Wow! That's a fairly good percentage. I haven't tried it myself, I've just given cuttings to a friend who does his own rooting and it hasn't gone well.
I didn't use rooting hormone. Maybe with this plant, that's the secret. :) It just seemed like the kind of plant that would root, the way it grows, ya know? So I took cuttings. I also took cuttings from plants that had produced flowers already, because I read that rose cuttings would not root unless they were taken from a plant that had already matured enough to produce flowers. I don't know if those two things went into the mix, but there ya go.
Good job! Don't you just love those flowers??
Well, I just ordered Patchouli and Dittany of Crete at The Growers Exchange. Mt. Valley didn't answer the call. I like when businesses encourage calls. I left my Patchouli at my other home, we moved this last fall.
Yes, I love the fuzzy leaves and the FLOWERS are great!
