You're Truly Texan When

You're Truly a Texan When...

You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.
You can say 110 degrees without fainting.
You can eat hot peppers to cool your mouth off.
You can make instant sun tea.
You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
The temperature drops below 95, you feel a bit chilly.
You discover that in July, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
You notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
It's noon in July, kids are on summer vacation, and not one person is on the streets.
You can actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 AM before work.
No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

you can say the same for arizonians.. Ive seen cookies baked sitting in the front window of a car when I lived there the only thing different is in TX we have the humidity and they dont... 13% is considered HIGH humidity for them...lol..

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

One of the food writers for the newspaper here did a feature last summer on how to dry tomatoes and other produce on the dash of a parked car. Pretty much gets done while you're at work, and you don't have to worry about shooing off birds or bugs.

Honestly, it's barely been in the 90s, everything is green, and the ground is full of water. After last year, that all sounds real fine to me.

It is nice for now, here in Austin. I got an early start and things look great on my deck. I set my AC to 70, I'm a hotflash gal, but I do have to watch the hose and let it run before I water...don't want to cook those plants. I've cut back on hanging baskets in case we have another brutal summer like last year. I am going to re-do a huge Patricia Cromwell side planted basket that was my big project and B'day gift last year (see post in "container gardening") it was really beautiful.

I love it! Definitely applies to us here in the desert too... It's May 19th already and we have not hit 100° yet - amazing, but I'll take all the nice days I can get because I know what's coming - lol...

angelsong...funny, I like those.

Here's one for hot/humid hills of NE TX...

.... you feel a breeze and mistake it for a late cool front blowing in, LOL!
Hey, this year anything is possible, we DID get snow this winter.... in March of all months!!
