Vultures

North Augusta, ON

Was heading to school this am and saw these vultures all warming their wings on the roof of a barn.
Sorry, it isn't the best shot in the world. The sun was right in my eyes...I basically just pointed the camera in the right direction and closed my eyes to take the shot.

Neat! I always think that looks so spooky. :-)

Tamesis, Antioquia, Colombia(Zone 12a)

I saw them do that too. Why do they do it??
They are creepy birds.....

Here's shot of the one I saw; no the best shot, against the light too...

Their getting the warmth from the sun over all of their body. I like them because they are so relaxing to watch gliding around.

Do they have cold blood ???

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Thought to be something to do with feather toning - when they spend long hours soaring, the weight of the bird starts to bend the feathers out of optimal shape. Sunning without any weight on the feathers gets them back into shape again.

When the sun is out early in the morning, our Turkey Vultures can always be seen sunning themselves on the tops of the power poles.

Guess the metal roof also adds warmth. I love the barn!
