I have 6 hostas to trade for other plants I want. (No seeds Please) I have a big want list on my trades page or make me an offer. I have 3 qt size pots of this one. I got them last fall. I would keep them but don't have the cold they need to do good. I bought these last fall. Sorry don't know the name as Lowe's did not have a name on them.
This is 2 pots in this picture.
Hostas for trade
The dark spots on the leaves is water as it rained all night.
Did I see that you wanted a sassafras? I found an interesting tree with interesting leaves on it and I brought a small one home. Looking at the pictures of the sassafras in the Plantfiles, I think I have a sassafras. I'll try to post a picture. It is a young one and just starting to send up it distinctive three lobes leaves.
you can pinch off a small piece and smell it. If it is sassafras you will *know*
It has a distinct strong smell.
I love sassafras tea. I would think the leaves that would smell. It is the roots tea is made from.
yes that is sassafras, I think the bark, leaves all of the tree smells, if I remember right.
I also listed it in Plant ID to see if anyone can be positive. I'll go back and look for a larger one where I found this baby. I just like the look of the leaves.
Please be careful with Sassafras. It can harm humans and animals.

It says that sassafras was banned for use in foods and tea in 1960, based on studies which showed mice developing cancer or liver problems after consuming sassafras tea regularly. How much, of course, we don't know, but in many of these kind of studies, large amounts would have to be consumed to cause damage. In 1994 the ban was lifted, I understand with some stipulations according to the FDA. If you trust the FDA... they turn around and approve all kinds of junk as safe, which goes in our food.
The article also says the tree has some benefit to wild life, and that some animals enjoy the fruits the tree produces.
Nothing says you can't use it at home for your own personal use. My brother and I used to chew the twigs when we were little.
In Bakersfield, CA I was buying sassafras and making tea with it. The only problem was I loved the smell so much, I didn't know weather to drink it or climb in and soak.
LOL it does smell nice.
I do think the tree eventually gets large though like a shade tree? I don't think it is an 'ornamental' tree, as in staying small. I wouldn't put it too close to a bed or it may get too shady or rooty eventually.
I think you could simmer it on the stove, even add orange peel or cinnamon ect to make it smell nice.
peppermint grows well too and might smell nice simmering.
This is a photo of my sassafras tree(s). All of these trees were actually little ones that sprouted from a huge tree that used to be in the middle. I have lots of little ones (up to 4 ft. tall or so) growing around this patch and told my husband that I should see if anyone was interested in trading for them and he said that no one would be interested in a sassafras tree. I would be afraid that the trees would die if I tried to ship them.
would probably die I think. trees don't like to be moved once they are very big at all.
