I would appreciate your suggestions of a computer program to manage gardening chores, plants, photos etc. I know DG has a lot of features but I want something that I can move around in faster than I can with online management.
thanks,
Karen
Your suggestions for computer program
I don't know of any either. Interested to see if anyone else has any ideas?
I use excel spread sheet to keep track of the plants I buy..etc. I keep the pictures of the garden in different location.
Eureka! I have found it!! It is online but is very fast and easy to use. I am currently doing the 30 day free trial.

Here's an image of the first attempt at design. Overly ambitous garden but at least I have something to shoot for. It will probably take several years to get all these raised beds and the pond built.
I really like the features that allow you to plug in your zone and it figures out your frost dates! Also by seeing it on "paper" then I can see that the required plant spacings will probably rule out very many cabbages or broccoli, which my family eats a lot of. As a newbie it is hard for me to mentally grasp the size requirements for certain plants.
It also allows for crop rotation and keeps you from planting the wrong things in the wrong places.
I'll probably end up subscribing. At least for the first year.
Very excited to find this program!!
Here's the link to a live demo:

Very neat Karen.
So what does a year run?
I think it was $25/year but check website. I've slept since I looked at it ;-)
Oh no!!!....Farmville has invaded my DG!!
Those of you on facebook.....you understand.
Seriously, it looks very organized and neat.
haha! Sheila. NO WAY!!! I can't stand the farmville app over at FB!! I hide all those games, aquarium, zoos whatever!
I'm a very visual person so this planner appeals to me. Probably not interesting for most gardeners because they are more hands-on.
But I designed my current home with a program similar to this so I had a lot of fun with it.
I hide them too, and belong to the "I don't care about your farm, you pet, your fish....." group!
I couldn't do anything this organized because I am constantly moving things around in my beds. Plus when you don't know where you planted it, you don't miss it when it dies! I do look at pictures from a while back occassionally and think....what happened to that plant? Did I move it? My hostas have been in four beds since I first got them, trying to find the best spot for them. I guess I don't take time to think things trough when I plant, I just find a open spot and bam.
