It kind of looks like a Catalpa, but those different shaped leaves make me wonder.
It could be Chinese Tallow;

There are a few different trees with heart shaped leaves. I first thought red bud, but then the different shaped leaves threw me off too. Catalpa leaves are waaaay bigger than tallow or red bud, so it should be easy to determine if that's it.

Crow was that you who trying to help me determine the name of the tree with the velvet leaves? If so I will take another picture. :)

It is not tallow as I have 2 of those. This tree has been in this pot for 5+ years and really needs to be in the ground. This is the first time it has had the heart shape leaves. The leaves are big. Let me take another picture and see if I can put something in to refer to the size of the leaves. Catalpa is not the name that comes to mind. And I can't remember what I was told it was but it ended up not being it but I can't remember what I was told a few years ago it was. I hate not remembering things.

I want to say I was originally told it was something like camphor tree.

Be back with another picture.

I like that Princess tree too. The Texture of the leaf is is rougher that my leaves on the Catalpa and it grows nuts ... not beans like the Catalpa.
Sandy How tall is your tree in the pot? I got three actually four in my yard. ... the small ones range from 1ft to 3ft, I will see what size the leaf is.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Sylvia, it is about 3 foot tall. It is in a 3 ft flowers bow and I hope to get it in the ground soon.

I hope it is a princess tree as I just saw one the other day for the first time and they are beautiful in bloom.

When I heard the name I thought of a liquid. If the man cutting down 2 of my dead pines would have said Princess tree I would have remembered I would think and My 2 DGD's have been into the Disney Princess's for years and my little dogs name is Princess. I am not saying it is not as it could have been the latin name he called it.

Girls, did you notice that it is an extremely invasive tree?
If you do keep it please cut off the seed pods before they mature, so they won't spread to the entire neighborhood.

Before I plant it in the ground I will be sure what it is. My neighbor has a lot of junk in his back yard and is mass producing poison ivy I am fighting in my yard. Because of him I have had it 3 yrs in a row. mmmmmm it itches.

I can't take a chance on invasives. I found False Queen Anne's Lace last year and brought it home. $ seeds sprouted and when I saw one is in his flower bed and he has left it...I pulled the 3 in my yard up. I decided to risky to try to pull the flower heads off before they set seed. I will have too many with the one growing in his flower bed. So much for being told by a nursery with plant in hand that it was Queen Anne's Lace. I will always come here for ID.

The leaf where you have your hand placed on it looks like the leaves on my Confederate Rose. Could it be something from the mallow family? The leaves are big enough to be a catalpa, but I remember all their leaves to be the large heart shape, without variation.

Also, if it was me trying to help with the fuzzy leafed plant, I can't remember the discussion :)

I do love these "identify this" threads. I always learn so much. Josephine you are a wonder to me on the depth of your plant knowledge.
