I have new silkies that can't see because of their crests. The people that sold them to me say "Hair tape the crest". I'm not exactly sure what that means. Is it a product for people, this hair tape?
Maybe someone could share some pictures with me.
Thanks.
Have you used hair tape for chicken's crests?
I'm envisioning not hair tape (no idea what that is) but a chicken with those little hair clips/bows that people use on their small hairy lap dogs. Now, that's a silly mental picture!
It's tape that people use to help straighten or curl hair, it doesn't stick to the hair. Just make sure you get hair set tape and not hair tape for toupees and wigs.
Here's the first link I came across, it explains what kind of hair tape I'm talking about. http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Hair-Created-Especially-Styling/dp/B000V5F2NO
Galle, that was the first thing that popped into my head too....lol!
For my silkies, I give them a regular trim above the eyes. Not suitable for show birds, but otherwise, they can see fine and it's easy to do.
Gallesfarm, when I googled this, I saw a picture of a crested polish with a child's hair barrette. Couldn't find any pictures of chickens with hair tape.
Thanks LoreenH, I'll be looking for that. Sounds like something walmart might carry.
She also told me to hair tape the rooster so he could breed easier. Guess I have some education ahead of me.
