I would love to trade for a ginger. The only thing I have to trade is a wild hydrangea. I found several growing on some property they are bulldozing for development. Would you be interested??? I also found some wild ferns.
It is so hard to trade Gingers here on Dave's, there is just not that many people into them. I can not see why, so many different types and colors and time of bloom, you just got to love them. Maggi got our first several years ago and said look Ken these are Gingers. OK. Then it took a few years to get them to all bloom and now I am in charge the Gingers at our house.
I don't understand-Gingers are the most beautiful and some the most fragrant of all flowers.
Thats why I wanted some, but as I don't have anything you want, I guess I'm out of luck on getting in for now.
thanks for the note! If you get a chance please look over my trade list as I might have something else that you may want!!!
Marie
Sending you a dmail. thanks, julie
I have my first ginger, a white one, that's getting ready to bloom. Just can't wait! I've never had one before, I didn't even know you could grow ginger for flowers! I don't have anything to trade, but I'm going to try to add to my collection later.
Bward, I live in zone 8a SC and have grown peonies for almost 10 years. I find that they need to be given part sun and kept well watered. The more sun they get the more water they need, otherwise the leaves will get sun burned. They will reward you with many blooms for many years. Don't turn down the peony offer. Meanwhile, check out my tradelist to see if I have anything to interest you. I don't have much.
Deebie, is it humid in your area where you grow peonies? I've tried growing them here but no luck.
It sure is, hot and humid. They need to be planted no more than an inch underground. Don't mulch over it in the winter; they need all the chilling they can get. Frost does not hurt it, it's cold hardy. It may take them two or three years to get going, so you may only get one or two leaf stalks at first. But it gets bigger and bigger every year.
OMG! You have me wanting to try again. I'll have to get a couple to plant in the fall. Thanks, julie
Let me know how it goes. Yes, peonies can and do grow in the south -- probably not in Florida, not enough winter chill.
