Yellow Split Peas Instead of Yellow Lentils

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I have a recipe I want to try but it calls for Yellow Lentils (Yellow Lentil Stew). I don't have any but do have yellow split peas. How would that change effect the end result? Anyone think I'll be awful? Or what??

It's a short recipe, I'm thinkin' someone's going to pipe up wth "Let us see the recipe!!!" so I'll go ahead and type it in.

Yellow Lentil Stew

2 T olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 c yellow lentils, sorted and rinsed
4 c vegetable broth
1 T fresh minced ginger
Grated peel from one lemon (yellow part only)
1/4 c lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped cilantro and lemon wedges for garnish

Heat olive oil in a large sauce pan. Saute garlic for one minute. Add lentils and stir. Add broth.

Simmer until lentils are tender, approximately 25 minutes.

Stir in ginger, lemon peel, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Serve with cilantro and lemon wedges.

Thanks for your input.
