I enjoy keeping written lists of birds I have observed. Writing them down causes me to remember the conditions under which the bird was observed (and other factors) which keeps my aging brain reasonably nimble. This is a list compiled over two days spent outside which were not entirely dedicated to birding only - a fair amount of time was spent fishing on the Mattaponi River. Wielding a fly rod does not lend itself to aiming binoculars so I probably missed more than one. Then again; one can cover a lot of real estate floating the tide in a canoe. None of these sightings are rare with one exception: flocks of migrating Bobolinks stopping over in a barley field. The list:
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Canada Goose
Osprey
Bald Eagle

Wow! That's quite a list! I was planning on doing that and including butterflies. Up until now I've been able to keep track by the pics I took, which has the date on each that I took them. My lifer list is on E-Bird too. But I want to start keeping track of them daily...it's difficult sometimes when one gets busy doing other things...lol
Today I saw a Morning Cloak butterfly fly from our front yard and into our backyard and didn't stop for me to take a pic...darn! Next time :D
Very nice list Bob!!
I guess it would be good if we kept our list here too. My list.

Not sure if you guy's are doing life-lists or? but if you are...I will just post my count and latest bird. I can always edit to update it though.
167-Blackburnian Warbler
Bob, that is an incredible list for two days. What a great trip!
Yes they are called Life Lists. Bob, that is incredible for 2 days! Is that your full Life List? I envy the Owl sighting as I don't have one yet.
No, Pelletory. It's not my full life list - just an example of the way I keep periodic lists. Before I retired, my job enabled me to travel (and bird) around the world so my life list is extensive. And, no, I don't keep track of totals any more. Here are some examples of my favorite sightings:
White-bellied Sea Eagle - Singapore
Fairy Tern & Madagascar Fody - Diego Garcia.
Jungle Crow - Misawa, Japan. Spring, 2000
Osprey - (One of three breeding pairs in the British Isles at the time) - Midnight - Cromarty Firth, Scotland. August 1975.
Northern Gannet - On patrol in a P3-C over the Atlantic (Area Carnival)
Immature Peregrine Falcon (only second sighting) - 2008 Christmas
Count - on Pamunkey River in Hanover County, VA.
Physical limitations prevent me from being as active as I'd like to be, but I still maintain an active interest in birding (and all things natural). BTW, if I never set foot on an airplane again, it will be too soon! When I retired I had 475,000 frequent flier miles on Northwest airlines alone.
Wow very cool!
Yeah, got loads of lists, life list (everything seen everywhere), West Palearctic list, Europe list, British list, various other country lists for the countries I've been to, county list, site lists for various reserves, year lists, day lists, and so on ;-)
My longest day list (24-hour 'bird race', on 15 May 2005) is 144 species.
Resin
Speaking of 24 Hour Bird Race, the "World Series of Birding" starts in just over 9 hours!
