Wanted- Culebra for trade

rural, WY(Zone 3a)

I have quite a few Brugmansia and Datura species, I'm wondering if anybody had a Culebra cutting they'd trade me for.
If you're interested, email me and I'll send you my list.
Thanks- gardenpro_ca@yahoo.ca

Denis_Taylor,
The Culebra is my personal favorite Brugmansia. Unfortunately, I just mailed my last rooted one off to someone in NC as they hybridize as well. Personally, I am looking forward to the hybrids from the Culebra. I personally love the aurea species/hybrids...but I think there may be someone else here with some extra Culebra laying around already rooted.

I wish I knew their name.

or maybe I just wish they knew my name.....:)

Hi Dennis - fancy seeing you here. You've seen the size of my culebra. I swear it's only grown an inch all summer. This one is teaching me patience. I hope I live long enough to see it bloom let alone hybridize.

FSH, TX

Liz,
The Culebra starts out extremely slow, it does not grow fast ever in my experience, but it will grow faster once it has developed a good root system. I sent out cuttings of my Culebra earlier in the year as my kids had a football accident in my Brugmansia garden. Seems to be an ongoing problem with them, but at least its always a different Brugmansia.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

if anyone would be willing to go in on an order from lebonjardinier www.lebonjardinier.com, I could get the 3 I really really want. They have tons that aren't being traded here. The only drawback is a $50 minimum, which for me right this second isn't do-able. LMK

FSH, TX

Tig,
What 3 do you really want? I can't afford to get the 3 I would really want either so guess I will have to try to create something nice with some pollen again this coming year.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Eric, the 3 I really want are Butterfly, Whiskers and Culebra. I want to do some heavy duty hybridizing in the spring and was thinking if I had them now, I could grow and baby them and they would reward me then. You have me hooked on getting seeds!! Never thought that was a big thing before I came to this site:)
Curious, what are your wants!! ?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig, what 3 do you really want? i wanna know too. will have to check them out, maybe you and i can do a 50.00 thing.
brugman, which ones are you looking for, can't rememember? european ???

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

the three I want are on Vicki's site. Culebra, Butterfly and Whiskers. To me with the ones I'm so fortunate to have already, I would have what I personally need to hybridize and have a ball doing it. Need to add a BIG journal to my shopping list:)

FSH, TX

Arelene,
Any old yellow aurea hybrids. Looking for true yellow aurea hybrids. Wild cuttings preferably. Butterfly is indeed a nice Aurea with a true aurea seedpod. Whiskers is one of my favorite new ones just based on the pictures I have seen of the flower and the leaves I have seen in person. Well, that and its genetic background-sure to throw out a ton of diversity. Can't wait to get some seeds started on that one too. As for the Culebra-shame on you!!Lol, its okay, I wish I had of remembered as I just sent off a rooted Culebra to NC. My Butterfly by the way is completly loaded down with another pink aurea pollen right now so I can't take any cuttings from it either right now as I still don't know which ones or going to take or not. Perhaps we could share pollen though? 5 anthers of pollen is enough for 20 or so flowers at the least if you do it right. The Butterfly has nice tendril lenght as well by the way. Tig, if the truth be know, I will trade for even the common white aurea non-hybrid as well. I just love the aurea's and hate taking cuttings of mine except for cuttings for more aurea's....Just call me painfully silly that way.

I should be getting my aurea seeds today, maybe I'll have something to dangle before your eyes in the spring:)

Brugman: I have some 1 gallon aurea plants I grew from seed from Pure Land Ethnobotanicals. You want one?

Dennis: My culebra is the same size as Liz's. Tiny. I've got it under the halide bulb to try and make it grow a little faster. Everyone who sees it thinks its the other plant that grows under halide 1000 watt bulbs. LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

arlene, since my arm twisting tactics aren't working :) maybe you can look and see what you like. We don't have to do it today, but I'm serious about ordering:)

FSH, TX

BrugCrazzy, do you know what they were crossed to? If not, I would still never turn down an aurea hybrid.
Yes, I know, I am greedy.

From all the talk i thought culebra would be very slow so i am pleased, have some leaves 11-12 inches long, and has grown 2-3X taller. But not big enough for cuttings yet!

FSH, TX

Lol,
Arelene-thats not bad at all. Keep up the good growing. Is that from one of the tiny Culebra cuttings you got from me?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Yes, i am really pleased with it. it reminds me of something i grew one summer in the 70s. looks like resin on the new growth.
what are naming the new plants??? yours and mine....your blooms look much darker than mine, will have to see later on.
tig, will get with you, have to look at their catalog again.

Brugman: They just came as aurea seeds along with the arborea seeds. I asked if the arborea were species and they said they were. That's all I know. Email me your addy and I'll post one to you. Anyone getting packages from Canada these days and are there any problems?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

tig & arlene - if you gals go in on an oder from lebonjardinier let me know. I'd get a couple too.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I might have to wait two weeks:) spent out today, but I will remember!

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Arlene,Tig and Poppysue count me in.I have a cutting order there now that has been in the works for two months.I can't even get them to answer e-mail.Even so,I would really like to have a Butterfly and Culebra.
I suppose I will have to send a certified/return and bla bla bla to get them off square one.I do notice that it didn't take long for them to charge my debit card.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Vicki is out of the culebra until spring. :( but if we ordered from overseas, or put together an order with paul, they have them.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ok brug friends, i would say let's try and gopherit. does anyone know if we can order from hodnik's this time of year and where the catalog is? seems like i only see a few plants when i go there. or where ever else, sounds like LBJ is too busy. tig, i looked at your earlier link, the one named Big looks awfully like eric's hybrid versicolor.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

all I see at hodnicks is three or four. what about the other site http://www.brugmansia.nl/ they have tons!!!!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Dennis- the culebra I have came from the kindness of Brugmansia. So many of the goodies you saw at my house were the good, kind, and much appreciated thoughtfulness of Eric.
Eric, I pollinated sanguinea to aurea yellow and the reverse today. More brugs I have to sleep with.

Tig: Unfortunately they don't mail to US or Canada yet. They're working on it. Brugman posted a list of Hodnik's plants a while back on this forum. Their website is weird, all you get usually is that orange stuff. I can't figure how to get into all the brugs there, made it a few times, lost now. If someone knows, please post the other link to their website. TIA

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, I thought there must be more, but I couldn't find them. ! off to hunt and then sell some things!!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

tig, i have a small whiskers that i will be cutting back later this month...we dont get our first soft freeze until sometime in early nov..
let me know if youre interested
jen

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brug friends, OTOH, i am running out of room fow new brugs, maybe if they don't ship to spring that will work. In for the ride, whatever you guys decide.

FSH, TX

Hodniks sells many different varieties of Brugmansia to include the Culebra and many more. Just e-mail them with a list of how many and what type you want and they will generally e-mail you back a list of what they can send to meet your needs and how much.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Jen!!!! oh please oh please, that would give me a line on all three of mine wishes!!!!!!!!!! And considering how much I've spent on mailing out trades lately, my husband will thank you so much. Let me know when it's ready and I will send you the postage.
Arlene, spring is actually better for me too, hubby has the nerve to want to bring his pepper plants in and grow them inside!!! hmmph, that's brug room baby! (I'm just ever so grateful that he's with me on loving the brugs:)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Jen, you're a real sweetie, but I found the whiskers, was thinking that gave me all three, but still haven't found the butterfly. Thank you for the offer, you can't know how much I appreciate it:)

FSH, TX

Jimminy,
Are you guys putting an order into Hodniks? Boy am I jealous.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugman, why don't you pick something and i will share, as long as i can get it in the spring, not now.(this means cuttings in the spring?) suddenly i am realizing i have enough to deal with this winter. don't need a thing more other than what is in the mail. Will of course honor the trades i agreed to with JJS, GTS, TIG, and someone else but i am hooping they will send to me in the spring if possible. also, did your hummer pics turn out? Your versi bloomed, was gonna take a pic but the batteries died, not sure a pic would do it justice, it is gorgeous!! it seems to be much darker than the blooms on her sis, and someday you are going to have to name her. wish i had given you a piece with blooms on it so you could see.
i stil have a couple of hummers, they are in heaven i have so many sages etc in bloom. one flew up 4-5 feet from me and checked me out, was surprised as the puppies were so close. i guess your email still isn't working? let me know, if you have been very kind to me and others here

FSH, TX

I wish I could, for now I guess I will have to dream of someone here getting the ones I trully like from Hodniks and then trading with them hopefully in the future. Yes,
my e-mail from this account is still down so I can't access it at all. I have not went to pick up the pictures yet either as I have hybrids blooming for the first time right now as well. Seems like a weekly thing I know...but you have to love your seedlings.

Brugman: I am waiting for an order from Hodnik's for mobisu, oroverde, plena's angel dream and quinde. Hopefully they will get here ( actually to Liz's house) soon. Then I will share cuttings, when big enough of the plena's angel dream and quinde with you as I know you like quinde.
