I have a white hedge rose that has babies, an old-fashioned (VERY fragrant) single pink rose with babies, and some pink hedge rose babies, if you're interested. They seem to be MUCH more resistant to "cooties" & less fussy.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Are these the roses that look like the knock out red roses? not reallylike a true rose?

are there any roses out there that are kind of resistant that look like those roses that you get from the florist?

And are those hedge roses fragrant? I really want to find a couple of fragrant ones.

Lindenhurst, NY

HI Kathy ann - I have a beautiful New Dawn rose that is from a great specimen from Antique Rose Emporium. It is a reblooming New Dawn (some only bloom 1x). I rooted it 2 yrs ago and it's growing in the same place i rooted it. I will have to cut it back to get it into a box.

New Dawn is very healthy, i have never gotten any blackspot on my New dawn roses.
I would be interested in your LA iris list.

We've traded before, for your great soaps:-)
take care,
Maureen

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'll get the louisiana iris list to you Maureen

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Some of these louisianas are growing together, planted too close, but all have nice buds about to open daily now,

if you can be patient, I'll make sure your getting the named variety before sending, black gamecock is over grown and i'll be having to pull alot of those soon. and has grown into other iris's out there.

I would give anything to be able to figure out how to make new starts from a rose bush I have that has been growing in my yard since 1989. It is a pink that smells like heaven and I can smell it even if there is only one bloom on the bush. I am always terrified something is going to happen to that bush. I am afraid to cut it back each year ... I might kill it.. it is about 10ft tall this year and blooming well. Any suggestions? I would love to give some to friends and my mother.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I would love to be able to root them I wish I could, I haven't had any luck rooting cuttings so far, I'd be affraid to cut it back also. hope you get some helpwith this, I'm not big in the rose department, but you can ask me about anything else LOL

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I've heard of those type of roses, since i've been searching for some, I have come across the diff varieties. those are neat looking

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Where have you bought your carpet roses at?

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i bought mine at lowes and home depot

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I checked there, they only had some knock outs and they were 20.00 each. LOL

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

hmm thats where i get mine . they say they sold at walmart on the site but never seen them there. contact the site and see if they can tell you where to buy in your area.

i dont like knock outs. dont do for me worth anything.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have a mini red cascade climbing rose. The roses are about the size of a nickel but the actual plant looks like a regular size climber. Here it is a few weeks ago totally covered with roses. I am sure there should be one rooted out there.

KathyAnn, I believe I have a Joseph's Coat rose that I rooted last fall. When we do our other trade, I could send it along. It will have several colors of blooms on it at one time. I think it's a climber, but I don't have anywhere for it to climb so I keep it trimmed. I trim it after each flush so it just keeps blooming, but it can get tall and "viney" if you allow it. It has LOTS of thorns so you don't want to plant it near a walkway. But it makes a beautiful backdrop. You want it?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

yep i'll take it, name your price LOL

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Nancy, do you think that rose would do good with l/2 day of full sun? did you have it in any sun? the place i'm thinking of putting it only gets afternoon sun. If not, i'll find another place to put it.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Yes, it will do great with just a half day of sun. I haven't seen any blackspot on mine, but it gets full sun just about all day. This cutting is about 6 inches tall but it will grow fast.

Do you have a sedum cutting from a sedum I didn't get from you before? Or maybe a different mint, like Julias Citrus or Algerian Fruit? Any of those would work.

I checked my pink cascade rose cutting but none took. I'll try again. It my most favorite rose--small bright pink blooms. It's the first to start blooming (in Apr/May) and the last to quit (sometime in Dec). Just flush after flush of mini blooms on a big shrub. I'll try to root us some more when I trim down this flush, or maybe I could send you a few cuttings. I just stick them in soil and keep them in a shady area until the root. Some do and some don't. Eventually, I'd like to line my fence with it. It's very showy.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

that is pretty, is that joseph coat rooted?

I'll have to go back and see if I can find that list from which you picked out those sedums,

and see which one you didn't get not sure where I posted that at.

I'm not wanting cuttings off roses though, but rather rooted plants. hope that josephs coat is rooted, I don't seem to be good at rooting them very much

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

well, I just read above there that you said it was rooted.

I'm gonna pass on that red cascade rose . thanks though I lovejesus

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

I think we dmailed about the sedums a while back, or may it was your cmail on cubits. Sedums or mints, you know what I like.

The Joseph is rooted. I'll try to root us some Pink Cascades. The flush should be done soon and I can trim it and stick some cuttings. Now if I could learn how to root hibiscus cuttings...

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Kathy
I've had better luck rooting roses this year than every before. I made sure everything was sterile. I have a small spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and I always use it on my pruners before going to the next rose. I also get a gallon of distilled water to use for these babies. Little things like that helped me, along with the tips from basic rose cuttings info that you find here. Keeping everything clean and disease free is great.

I have lots of roses, maybe 50. There is still a great place for knockouts in my mind. They are lovely. Joseph's Coat is stunning but has lots of problems for many areas, not sure if yours is one but the life of that rose isn't very good here. For 'easy" without all the spraying you should get knockouts. They have a new yellow one that I've purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. I'll get you some cuttings from my Santana climber.
It really is worth your money and time to pay for a good rose and not a walmart rose. I don't know if Palatines still is sending out plants but I've never order a rose from there that isn't GREAT. Also, one thing that is important to remember, as with Clematis - make a good hole for it - dig a larger hole than needed, put plant food in the bottom, add manure, peat, bananna's that are browned if you have them, humus or other potting medium and water the hole - then fill in with your own soil and some of the other goodies mixed together. Water well for several weeks and not get the leaves wet - causes black spots.

I'm learning about roses but I do know you must start with quality plants and not some little thing that takes baby care unless you know what you're doing. -

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Hey, thanks for all that help. I'm new with roses too, I appreciate thehelp.

I have been watering the ones I have here from the ground and not the leaves. so far so good.

I know about the knock outs, the only ones here local are the red ones. they get huge and I didn't really want something that got so massive.

our lowes is a horrid place to buy plants alot of what I buy there ends up dying later on.

I went to a nursery in batesville and saw alot of blackspot on their roses , didn't even want to look at them after that LOL

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a simple guide that Eglante sent me when I started rose gardening and had so many questions. I looked over it last night and I made several notes, etc. as I was learning. I'm going to mail that to you. It's so easy to find info, small book, quick guide. You can keep the book.

You can trim the knockouts back in early spring. I've done that for several that I want to contain to their location. I can buy one here for you and mail it if you want yellow or pink. It's going to be as easy as you can get. If you order from Palatine Roses try their freelander rose. It's much like a tea but the vase life of the flower is 10-14 days. I don't know if they are still shipping but I would buy a good rose to start with and you won't have nearly as much problems.

What color are you looking for?
Kathy

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

yellow orange, pinkish anything, I have a few red, I have 2 climbing reds and a climbing pink and a bush red and a local friend gaveme 3 or 4 bush type one was yellow. not sure ont he others, I didn't think they'dlive transplant and they are thriving now. not even in full sun, so I may have to transplant them.

I am checking into a few ground cover roses. have to be careful cause the bush do take up alot of space.

how much is that yellow knock out? I'm getting to where I can trade pretty easy for things I want, so I don't tend to go buy them .

i'm even working on a couple trades with a few ebayers instead of purchasing from them i'm trading. i'm happy about that. you'd be surprised how many ebayers woudl rather trade. i may have too many roses before long LOL if that's possible.

if I keep getting climbing roses, I may have to plant them across the dog run so it will cover the pen up ha.
