My husband and I saw the most beautiful little bird last weekend. I've googled and found this picture. I'd have to ask the husband to be sure, but I think this is what we saw. Anyone know what he is?
What is this little guy?
Hi, Congratulations that is a Baltimore Oriole.
Really? What the heck would he be doing in Texas?
Nevermind. I spoke too soon. They are native to Texas, but they also winter here. I had never seen one before. It was gorgeous.
He sure is a beauty. Hope there's a female around for you too. Their babies are adorable!
They certainly are gorgeous and that is a very nice photo!
I stole the picture from the internet. I couldn't take one near as nice. I'm going to rig up an oriole feeder and put out some oranges. They are supposed to really like those.
They winter in Central America, and migrate through Texas on their way to northern breeding grounds. They are beautiful birds.
Carla
They really are stunning. I'm so glad it's been identified.
Great pictures!
New to this website. I'm in Niagara Falls, Canada. Have a beautiful pair of orioles back for about their 3rd year. Today - the female wouldn't stop flying into dining room window - trying to build a nest. I know their nests are hanging ones - so why is she so persistant? Even took inside screen off - and rapped on window - she's still there! Any ideas?
Lucky you Dave! Nice shot!
Wow that is lucky!!!
Wow Dave and with your gear I hope we all are privy to the building and nesting!!
Wow! Great BO shots ;o)
Nice ones Dave!
Dave - I don't mind one bit! I'm just glad to know what I spotted and hope to spot him again!

Hi Glory,
I'm not sure what you mean by she's trying to build a nest. Yes, they build hanging ones from trees. Could be that she is seeing her own reflection, or is not "seeing" the window at all. Try the bird decals sold today (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=13244) for one or hanging a towel or sheet in the short term over the outside of the window. If the behavior stops, it's probably just a reflection issue.
She is beautiful Dave! Great pics!!
How cool Dave!
