Last summer and fall I was obsessed with catching this huge possum who had caused problems around here. Some of you will remember me catching it's mate with my bare hands in my nightie and pink rain boots. Well, I've been trying to catch a wild female cat for the past few weeks and got a big feral male cat instead. and now yesterday, the big possum. he weighed about 10 or 12 pounds and was the biggest I have ever seen. He now lives far enough away that I won't be worring about my chickens or ducks this spring.
Now, if I could just catch that darn cat!
I finally caught that rotten possum!
Glad you got him... We saw a bobcat the other day pretty close to the house.... Im still praying he doesn't find the coop! I did'nt have them in mind when I built it :(
Congratulations on getting that possum!
Have you tried keeping geese, Jyl? They seem to do a decent job of discouraging predators. They didn't stop the mink that broke into our henhouse, but I think they deter a lot of other critters.
we had toulouse for years. They were good watchdogs, but tended to keep people like my husband and best friends out of the yard too. He must have forgotten how much he hatted that goose, he actually suggested getting annother. Happiness is a husband with a short memory.
jylgaskin, congrats on the capture! Actually I still giggle about your adventures with the other 'possum. Sounds like somethings I would do. Only it would just happen that the guy who leases our pasture for his cattle would be within full sight of me and my nighty and (in my case) polka-dotted mud boots. He's rather young and thinks I'm a crazy yankee.
Good luck with the feral cats.
Oh Terri!! That is just to funny, Polka dotted mud boots...That must be a hoot...Hay
Good hunting JYL. happines is a husband with a short memory,,,pretty funny, but that would not be me...When I was in the first grade we had a gander that would not let me come home from school. I was scared to death of that bird as he had bitten me and chased me many times. To this day they are my favorite for target practice with my .22...DEAD GEESE ANYONE...LOL. Hay.
We keep a two-by-four handy at the poultry-yard gate just in case he gets delusions of grandeur - or gandeur....Helps keep him humble.
No wonder I like you, Greenhouse, We do have a lot in common. 2x4, .22. .22, 2x4 Hmmm. I guess either could be lethal. You Rock...Hay
No point shooting our own goose, Hay! He keeps wandering hawks and other critters away. The 2x4 works fine.
