mixing perennials and caladiums- ok??

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7b)

I have a bed I just dug, and I have a big bag of caladiums I plan to put in there, but I don't want it to be totally bare now until they sprout, or for the winter. I have black mondo grass and maybe some other perennials that I wanted to plant.. but would pulling up the caladium bulbs in the fall be too upsetting to the roots of perennials? Or, are they shallow enough that it would be ok? They say to only plant the bulbs 2" deep.

If I treated them like an annual, and didn't dig them in fall, would the rotting bulb be bad for other plants?

No, and if you mulch them heavily, they might come back in the spring.
