Question, Crooked Beak

(Zone 5b)

One of my sweet, darling Buff Orps has a crooked beak. It happened so fast. I've been in the hosp for a couple days with pneumonia. As soon as I got back I had to check on them and I noticed her beak right away. I spend so much time with them it's hard to belive it was there before and I missed it, but guess it's possible?

She eats just fine, when I hold her she doesn't feel thin at all. It was cold and windy today (I didn't let them out side) so I made them some hot mash with some hard cooked egg yolks in it. She seems to eat ok, food gets stuck on her beak and she cleans it a lot. Her eyes are clear, no discharge from her nose either, beat isn't red, black/blue or look injured in any way. Her beak looks like it's in the process of working on twisting really hard. What causes this??? Is there hope for her? Anything I can do extra for her? They will be 2 months old on the 5/15. Thank you!!

I have a pullet with a beak that looks like scissors. I don't know whether there is any "cure" but she does fine as is.

Thanks, porkpal, that's a relief!

I think scissor beak can be a symptom of other disorders...or just a mandibular growth abnormality. If it is not too bad you can sometimes trim them a bit, but if it is a bone growth problem it may keep advancing...still I wouldn't give up on her. I've heard of a lot of chickens that had scissor beaks and learned to live with it.
