We had 4 Silkie hens sitting on eggs. Each hatched at least one some two. One mama got up with the babies while the rest stayed on unhatched eggs. Now 3 of the mamas have gotten up and there is still one on eggs. I don't think the eggs she had were good so we gave her some new ones since she is so determined.
The mamas and babies are up and about all together. We had been moving the 3 mamas and 6 babies to a seperate pen away from the roo and other two non sitting hens, but this morning they were up and out before we were. They all seem to be getting along fine. The babies will even crawl under the roo and he doesn't mind.
My son put some boards along the fence line because they could get through the chain link fence that is on the back side of their pen and that goes right into another pen with big chickens and a big roo.
This picture is two mamas and a couple of babies. Some babies are under the mamas.
Babies and mamas all together
They are so cute is the daddy buff colored?I love that one with the buff face and black body.
The babies are Buff Orpingtons and Ameraucana mixes. The Silkie mamas were just incubators, none of the babies have Silkie in them. The one with the brown face may be Buff Orpington and Australorp mix as we have an Australorp hen in with our Buffs.
They are so cute, but don't tell the silkies they aren't their babies...LOL SO CUTE>
