merging my groups.

I did have a divider up in my chicken pen to separate my bantam Cochin and standard chickens but after buying 4 more standard pullets and the recent hatch I needed more floor space for the standards. I took out the divider and after a day or 2 of unrest things are calm in the coop. The Cochins seem to keep to themselves and so do the pullets. Its like there are 3 different groups in one large pen. The 2 roos seem to tolerate each other for now and the standard roo seems to have no interest in the bantam hens... Can I expect the peace to last or do you think the standard roo will try to claim the bantam hens?

From what I understand, based solely on reading, once the flocks have established themselves, the roos will generally leave each others hens alone (I have a sneaky feeling the hens have more say in this than is acknowledged).

So it is perfectly possible for two or three roosters to co-exist, each with its own group of favourite hens....

The only fly in the ointment is out of control adolescent roos who will jump anything that moves...

Very cool!

I don't have any roos but am wondering if I separate a flock that has been together since they were chicks, will it be easy to put them back together again at the end of the summer?
