Do gladiolus do well in Pennsylvania.
gladiolus bulbs
There's a Pennsylvania Gladiolus Society, so I'd guess they do.
What we think of as Gladiolus are, in fact, many different cultivars and hybrids. Species Gladiolus look entirely different.
Here's some info on taking care of hybrid/cultivar Glads. Keep in mind that these must be dug and stored every fall at first frost: http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/plantsci/landscap/h812w.htm
Here's some info on species Glads, particularly those from Southern Africa. Most of them aren't good for the Pennsylvania climate as they need much warmer temps. But there's also info on Gladiolus hybrids that might be helpful: http://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/Gladiolus
