Baby Bluebird Problem

Mandeville, LA(Zone 8b)

I spotted a young BB on the ground with his parents circling around. The little one can flutter above the ground a few inches, but is not able to actually fly. I also don't know where the nest is. Is there anything I can or should do?

gg, Sorry to hear there is problem. Safety first; make sure they're safeguard from predators such as a neighbor's cat or dogs. Others suggestions will have to come from bird-rehablers? Hopefully someone will come along soon.

Get him off the ground to protect him and the parents will take care of him. If you try to put him back into the nest, you may cause the whole brood to fledge prematurely.

I went back to check, and it appears that the baby has managed to get up in a tree, with mom feeding. I think the best thing I can do at this point, is to buy some mealworms and make feeding a little easier for the parents.

Sounds good.

Phews! What a relief! Should I email you some mealworms. lol. I bought some for my Carolina Wrens. I think I saw one of the fledges today. They really love those wiggling things.

Thanks Lily, but I'm not sure how to reconstitute e-mailed mealworms!!!! I actually did buy some this afternoon. So far, they haven't been "discovered." I'm sure I paid a super premium price, where do you get yours? Attached is a candidate for awful bird pictures. Its redeeming value is that it is a happy ending for a scary morning.

gg, that's wonderful that Baby is reunited with Dad! Happy ending. I bought mine from 'Super Petz' in town. It's quite pricey too. I'll need to research for a better bargain elsewhere.

It's so good to see a happy ending!
