Ruby-throated Hummers, absence of males?

Trinity, NC(Zone 7b)

I have been feeding hummers for several years now. Just saw my first male. He was a gorgeous devil, I was watering some flowers and he flew under my spray about knee level, only about 10 inches form my legs. I was looking down at him as I adjusted the spray finer. This is my first male sighting in the 6 years I have been
feeding them, I fed them with darkeye fuschia plants the first 3 years the last 3 years have been feeding them with a nectar, mix 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Is it normal that I never see the males just females?

Marlton, NJ

Hi rank, Yes that can be normal. I only see "mature" males during migration time (early Spring and Fall). You might also be seeing immature males (during the summer) that do not have their throat colors yet.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I have quite a few male hummers in addition to immature and female ones. I always have a lot of males. I have a few flowers, but also have several feeders up with the 1/4 mixture.
