CLOSED: Have Iris for other perennials or bulbs.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hello!

I'm working on some beds for my older neighbor and we need to trade out some of his surplus. He has a bunch of these Iris if anyone is interested. We could trade 2-3 for each perennial and would prefer to do larger trades if possible. We do not know the name as he planted them 7 years ago or so and he doesn't care if your plants are named.

The bed already has a bunch of yarrow (he doesn't remember what color), naked ladies and this iris. I've potted him some black eyed susans, threadleaf coreopsis, purple spiderwort, redhot pokers, tithonia, zinnias, etc and whatever else I can find. :) He just wants a riot of color and easy sun tolerant perennials.

Some things of interest would be Lobelia cardinalis, portulaca seedlings, purple coneflower, pink mimosa trees, clematis, etc. In another bed, he could use a couple of bleeding hearts, chartreuse/lime green or burgundy heuchera, etc.

Please make a suggestion if you are interested in these. I have two more full sun beds to do for him and I need a handful of plants for his shade garden. Please do not offer seeds unless you are sending a ton of them because postage is pretty darn high for boxes. LOL

I forgot to add that these are very heavily scented, not a grape scent like some but a perfume type smell.

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

I would love to share my plants, I have several stonecrops and sedums, tulip and hyacinth bulbs, orange asiatic lilies, double hollyhock and perennial poppy plants, some thymes... All of them are nice size clumps. Please LMK if interested.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That sounds great! I think we'd have a preference toward the lower creeping Sedums since I can give him some of my taller and tall variegated ones. The bed I am working on now is a drier sun bed. I am splitting whatever I have with him.

I also know he loves lilies since he just bought some (he got away from me. LOL). It's hard to break someone of paying retail when stuff is blooming and they are in the mood!

I have some other 2 tone Iris I can throw in if you are interested, I'll come back with a photo. I also have a ton of the old fashioned lavender grape scented ones if you want those and possibly a few other named names. I'm working out there today and can get photos.

Too bad you are a few hours north or I'd suggest we meet and swap. Have you been to the Ohio forum? There is a big get together, called a Roundup next month. Post and introduce yourself if you haven't. :)

That iris is beautiful.
I wish I had something to trade for the irises.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

For YOU, I would accept postage. :)

Oh what a "SWEETIE" ^_^
You have dmail.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I do not want them to go to waste and I also do not want to replant them all elsewhere. LOL My neighbor is 71 and he's very easy to please (unless he's in a mood and trust me, he can get feisty!). He does not care what I plant for him so long as I fill the bed back up and it's obnoxiously colorful.

These Iris are probably covering an area that is 6'x4' wide. He swears up and down that he is going to drop dead any day and he's never had flower gardens so I am busting my buns to make sure that his house is surrounded in flowers no matter when he goes and he may just outlive ME. :)

He and I really have a good time busting each others chops and I have worked him hard the last couple of weeks helping me get beds ready so I can move my plants to his gardens. I finished the first bed with 15 daylilies, 15 perennials, ornamental grasses and finished it off with some annuals.

The second bed is a shade bed and I took over 4 big hosta, two astilbe, a hydrangea and also divided his monster hosta that was frying in the sun which created a second shade garden. There is still some room in those beds and I have three more sun beds to do.

Don't be afraid to make any offer of mature plants if you like the iris! All offers will be considered!

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

You are doing such a great job! He is lucky to have you as a neighbour lol. Thanks for the info on forum, sounds like fun. So LMK would you like all plants available or some particular ones? I could start getting them ready tomorrow or Sat.

Hi Tubby,

Do you have plants or seeds? I'm sure we can work out something. :)

Maria, don't worry about digging/packing tomorrow. Take your time and do it over the weekend and I'll do the same. I'll dmail you shortly. Are you interested in a few of these too? They are actually a bit more purple than they look in the photo but not drastically different. These are from my garden.

I would love some of those iris - always looking for the 'smelly' ones :). I have 'neon' sedum and a tone of coneflower -mostly purple but you may find yourself with another of my other ones that all grew together with my purple.

Hi Janae,

That sounds great! How many would you like? Would you like a few of one in the second photo? I'm planning on digging Sunday and shipping Monday.

I have to get back out to transplant but will keep in touch with you all over the weekend. I'll probably be gone most of tomorrow but I will be checking in.

Thanks!

Spooner, WI

I'd be interested in a couple, because I'm a sucker for fragrant stuff! Check out my list & D-mail me if interested.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

I would love some of the Iris I have a spot that I want to try some more.... I mostly have part shade items. I do have some brown eyed susans I am taking to a swap. Some baby spider warts. I would even just pay the shipping. Let me know okay and thanks for posting this! Ronna

I need to grab a shower and hit the road. My kids have a soccer game and 2 softball games today. I should be back home around dinner time.

I do still need a few more things for his shade garden. It's about 23x5, the same as the first sun garden (because it's on the BACK of the same fence. LOL). Right now that bed just has a monster green hosta, white and green varie hosta, dark and light green varie hosta, pink astilbe and a hydrangea. So he does have space in there for about 4-6 perennials. It's more dappled shade that gets early morning sun.

Be back later. Thanks for writing!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm heading over to dig Iris. If we've not confirmed, please check your dmail. :)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have atleast 1 mimosa that is 6" tall. And look at my trade list most lived through the freeze.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Mom! I'll get back to you very shortly. I just finished cleaning about 4 dozen of those Iris. LOL I replanted another 3 dozen in his big bed. I didn't even make a dent but trading aside, the rest will wait until fall or until I need the space they are in now. Please hold that Mimosa for him! I trade for several last year and they didn't do anything. That is a tree he loved as a youngster. :) Can I dump some Amaryllis on you too? I'm tired of playing with them and they are houseplants here.

I went to the neighbor's to work on those Iris, ended up getting him to help me move some beautiful pavers over to edge the bed we are working on, then planted some more ideas in his head. Poor guy. He's going to have all these beautiful gardens and not know what to think. I took him my tiller so he could get going on bed number 4. *chuckling* I picked him up a flat of annuals yesterday and got him 16 Portulaca too!

I came in to check for mail and updates. I'm headed back out to dig up and clean mine from the second photo....

I love Mother's Day! I can work outside all day without feeling guilty. LOL Tomorrow a friend is coming to help weed my daylily beds. She's willing to work for plants and knowledge. I so love that deal!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Please dump as many Amaryllis as you can on me....They are my most Favorite!!! I will hold the Mimosa and it is in a pot so it will get rootbound and be easier to ship as I won't have to disturb the roots. Do you want more than 1? I usually have seedlings and I can transplant them into some pots now for when you want them. JLMK

Love you my Sweet Badseed,
Happy Mother's Day!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I'd send you 2 dozen Amaryllis if I had them but I only have these three. I'll look for the tags and let you know their names. They were gift sets I bought a few years ago and I am really not doing them justice. They are not anything special but I know they are hardy there. :)

I have help coming to help with the daylily gardens tomorrow and I will send you a box on Tuesday.

Boxes are ready to go for carpathiangirl, janaestone and christmascactus.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Five boxes of mine should have reached their destination or will in the next day or couple of days. Iris that were dug from my neighbors have a "C" marked on the fans and Iris from my gardens were marked with a "M". They were inspected to be disease free and no Iris borers. :) The marker used was safe and will not hurt the plant. My neighbor's Iris are marked with the "C" (the first photo) and mine have an "M" (the second photo).

Thank you all very much for helping my neighbor achieve his dream of being surrounded by gardens bursting with color. :)

Michele, postage was mailed out this afternoon.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful plants with me.

Irises arrived!!!
Thanks so much!!!

Got mine! Beautiful, healthy plants! Thanks. Mine will be packaged once this lovely (but very cold & wet) rain stops. I have enough of these Irises to share with my church (we have one more garden to do there).

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thank you both! I've made new friends and got a ton of beautiful new plants for my neighbor and even a few extras to stay here. I'm glad to find homes for the abundance of plants from Charlie's. He's like a kid, seeing all this new stuff go in at his house. I can't imagine what he'll be like once it all starts blooming!

ptilda, you take your time and get through your finals! School first! I'll be here! I went over today and dug up another 4 dozen or so. I brought half home and replanted the other half.

If you are waiting on a reply from me, it will come tomorrow. I'm staying busy between storms!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have this thread marked to watch but it is not coming up for me. Badseed if you will please dmail me when you ate ready so I don't miss you posting.

Wonder how many more threads I have marked to watch and have lost. Darn!

Thanks Sweetie
Mom

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Sending you mail. :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Is this thread still active or is everything spoken for? I have plenty of ordinary, nothing special sun and shade perennials that I would LOVE to trade for some of those irises.... (Heuchera, cranesbill, rooted hibiscus, etc.)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Carrie,

I still have 8 sitting here (from trades mailed Saturday) that I can pop in the mail tomorrow or I can go over and dig some more if that is not enough. I can probably still dig another 1/2 dozen of mine if you are interested in the ones in the second photo.

I moved a bunch of ornamental grasses to my neighbors on Saturday and I'm still nursing the cuts. LOL

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ouch! (the cuts.) OK. I have some rooted hydrangea 'QuckFire' as well as lots of unrooted things*. Oh, and also I just placed my Bluestone 50% off order, and I'm pretty sure I won't be needing 3 of everything! A dwarf monarda, plumbago, dianthus, gee, I can't really remember, but the Town cut down a big mostly dead maple tree, so my small garden turned into a full sun garden during the winter! We like irises but don't know nuttin' about them so anything you send us is fine. The periwinkle-colored ones that are blooming right now, here, are lovely, but I've seen beautiful huge clumps of TBI in OH (as a matter of fact) - I didn't know what they were at the time but it was my brother's college graduation, so it was about this time of year).

*anonymous helenium, monarda, geraniium, coreopsis 'moonbeam', ornamental strawberry ...

Ballston Lake, NY(Zone 5a)

check out my tradelist. most of my stuff is in a state where it should be split soon.
i'll be adding more items in the next week or two cause i just planted a whole ton of things that i've been growing over the winter.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Badseed, are you still interested?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

If you two can give me the weekend, I promise I'll get back to you. My butt is whooped! My neighbor that I am doing the gardens for has not been well and one of his dogs had to have an emergency C section so he's been helping her with her puppies. I need to go back over there tomorrow evening and water all of his plants and decide what is going into the last 2 beds.

I on the other hand, have a customer coming to pick up a bunch of daylilies tomorrow so I've been totally busting through the gardens and was lucky to have a friend help me today. :) I don't usually let customers come to my house but the man that called was especially nice and I couldn't say no. So I'll be up at 6am digging daylilies so they'll be fresh when he comes then we have to go to a softball game.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh sure, take your time.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm going to go ahead and close this thread and possibly open it back up in the fall. There are still plenty of Iris but I have too much going on right now. My apologies.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

:( Too bad.
