I was watering a Brug from last year that is just coming up, and noticed hundreds of these little seedlings directly in front of the old plant. They do not look like weeds...could I possibly have Brugmansia seedlings? We had the coldest winter ever here, and if they grew, they grew by self sowing....
Are these possibly Brug seedlings?
daturas most likely
hmmm...I did not have any Daturas in my yard at all...
I see...well thanks for looking Dana, I can't imagine what they could be! Guess I will let them grow out and find out, lol!
Karen, It's had to tell without a close-up of an individual plant, but do you have any 4 o'clocks near-by? With all the rain we had this winter, I'm seeing weeds coming up that I have never seem before. It's scary to realize that some seeds can lie dormant for decades.

Agree to the coldest weather ever here in Tx. Mine in pots are coming back from the base & I couldn't believe it. Had 5 0r 6 & the smaller pots came back & I thought the larger ones were goners so I was going to re-use the pots & there were tiny green shoots coming back down in the root ball. I'm feeding & watering the other 2 large pots. They were just out in the yard....no protection & at one time under 15" of snow. It will take time but these were tough dudes. Took cuttings in Nov. & when I noticed they had buds in March I brought them in from the GH & they bloomed along with my Amaryllis. Had to set the plant on a box as the bloom was dragging the top of my printer. And, this weird Amaryllis bloomed on a very short stem. Any way it was nice to see both as I had begun to think winter would NEVER END!
Hugs,
Judy

gone2seed you are right! There are lavender-light purple stems on a lot of them....There is a "mother" plant, that is coming up attached to the cut off stump of a Brugmansia....then all these seedlings...The funny thing is, the seedlings are identical to this tall mother plant, and when I plucked one up and held it directly next to a Brugmansia, and then the identified "mother plant" it looked identical to it! Darn I wish my camera would take good, close up photos so I could explain better....then you would be easier able to tell why I thought they were baby brugs...I should know better than to think that possible.
Well they do look a lot like brug seedlings. On the bright side, birds love the berries and kids like to paint themselves with the berry juice. They do need to be taught not to eat the berries.
If it's brug seed you want, they should be easy to find this time of year.
I had to come back and laugh with you gone2seed, I pulled up the offending Poke Salet after so carefully watering, fertilizing, and bug spraying it for 2 months, lol! It was the healthiest Poke you've ever seen!
