i read those up there

what i was asking was a general idea of what worked for most people verses the other methods..

Gotcha ^_^

I personally use a large (3 gal or more) bucket and fill about 2-3 inches with a mix (about 50/50) of soil and perlite. Then I just kinda lean the cuttings in there... you will quickly see when they root, when the leaves start to grow and then you can give them their own pot or put them in the ground.
Give them as warm a place as you can while rooting.

ok because i dont have just sand and have regular potting mix. they will be sheltered and sorta warm depending on our wacky weather at the moment.

i heard people starting in water and in sand and in moss and gosh what else.

wanted to know which everyone used and seems its potting mix and perilite so thats how i will go then.

dont want to kill the new cuttings.

I do mine like Hetty - works very well!

When you say, 'lean' then in the mix... are you not putting the whole cut end down into the mix?? and do you let it callous over?

I just got a few Plants earlier this year, most are over 2 feet tall, I'm hoping to see blooms this year, but if not, when would be a good time to go ahead and take a couple cuttings so I can expand my collection? Will they make roots when they are dormant in the winter ? Can put in a sunny south window inside over winter to help root if that would work.

well i planted mine 2-4 inches into the dirt and all but one of the smaller ones has started to grow. put root tone on them watered well each day as our weather has been in the hundreds( yes in SC) but all are doing well.

I have 3 unrooted cuttings in the same pot. They are in a mix with perlite and potting soil, leaned in. 1 is growing leaves quite well. The other two started growing leaves, but now the bottoms are turning into mush. Can I cut off the bottoms and start again or just let them go? Please help. Tina

is it usually best to wait till after first year of blooms to make cuttings? or anytime ok?

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i would cut the bottoms off and let dry a day or two. then try agian or try rooting those 2 in water.
