I bought 2 different types of purple fountain grass without realizing it. They're both labeled Purple Fountain Grass and both share the same latin name - Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum'. However, the spanish names beneath the title name are different, and one is cold hardy to zone 8 (Cesped de Fuente Morado) while the other, Hierba de Fuente Morado, is only cold hardy to zone 9. Anybody successfully growing both types in zone 8?
purple fountain grass
I was successfully growing purple fountain grass until my cats ate it down to a nub. I have no answer for why they did this.
I have 8 outdoor cats and so far they're leaving my fountain grass alone. A young, pregnant kitten showed up in my backyard last year and gave birth to a litter of 5. I have major ground vole problems, and I was hoping they would grow up to be ferocious predators. So far they're more interested in birds, butterflies, and lizards. Oh well, at least they're adorable.
??? cats??? My neighbor grows that and has cats, end result is the cats don't eat it and it's really not very colorful. It has a muted purple color but doesn't really do much other than that where i am.
Thanks for the input, Core!
