Don't water (?) the day/night before you harvest - what veg?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I recently read somewhere that you're not supposed to water a certain veggie the day (or night) before you harvest. But for the life of me, I can't remember WHICH veggie. I think it's either cukes, zucchini, or onions... or was it tomatoes?

Has anyone ever heard of this? When I read it I thought "I'll have to remember that". LOL I should have written it down and taped it on my monitor or someplace where I'd be sure to see it.

Thanks for your help!

Oops - sorry. I guess I should have posted this in the veggie gardening forum.

Mea culpa. (But I'm sure at least one of you knows the answer!) :)

It's okay, we answer all kinds of questions here.

Watermelons are supposed to have the water cut back on them prior to harvest to sweeten them up a bit.

Withholding water from sweet potatoes too is recommended before harvest.

think when you water a water storing plant when it is ripe, it increases the tendency to rot fast, most vegies that are a never ending harvest arent as at risk. onions, potatoes, you dont even wash til use. okra, no problem. if you deep water and allow the soil to dry before harvesting then deep water after harvest, its better than a constant sprinkl-that keeps roots too close to the topof the ground, Corn, always walkin up to the sun, dont water before harvest. Calabasa, gourds, squashes, Melons, cantaloupes, the stem dries cutting off water to the plant, watering increases rot, making nex seasons seeds
