I know that I have rabbits nearby in a wooded area by my house. Could they be getting on the bales and eating the blooms? Any help appreciated. Some of my tomato plants are nearly 3 ft. tall. Not noting them being eaten on the taller parts of the plants.
What's eating my tomato blooms??
Anything in the nightshade family, including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and eggplant have poisonous leaves (belladonna, I believe). At the nursery they put the salvia and nightshade plants on the ground/concrete under the display tables to store since the rabbits don't eat them, unlike the rows of marigold they had eaten at the nursery the previous year! I did have rabbits jump onto my bales to be able to access the pots of broccoli next to the bales! They do find the cabbage family very yummy!!!
cocodrie, are you sure the blooms are being eaten? I still have blooms falling off because they didn't set fruit, but that should resolve as the weather gets more stable. My cherry 'maters have set some fruit, but the larger heirlooms have not, despite lots of flowers. I don't think it's really unusual at this time of year.
I think you may be right, catmad, as the blooms further up are doing ok at this time. Thanks for your input.
