I rescued a shorkie (yorkshire terrier and shitzu mix) about 3 months ago. Her 85 year old owner had died. She's 8 years old and has been transitioning gradually to me and my house. When I first got her she wouldn't let me touch her ears, face and chest. She nips, but has never broken my skin. Now I can touch her ears, but I can't look inside them. The only part of her face that she doesn't want me to touch now is her mouth. I'm used to big dogs and haven't had these problems before. Do you think because of her age that she will never really trust me? Does her being part terrier make her more independent than most dogs?
