New to back yard today all alone. Looked up on bird book, and it looks like either one. How can I tell the difference? Thank in advance for you assistance!
CLOSED: House finch or purple finch
House Finch ~ Back of nape is brownish instead of red, head is rounder on top, flanks and underside are more streaked, orange/red is brightest on forehead and malar, pale gray behind eyes (auriculars), color does not go all the way down the side (past wings).
